This is where we are: Doctors are currently suspicious of Landon - TopicsExpress

This is where we are: Doctors are currently suspicious of Landon having low pressure headaches. Which means too much fluid is draining from the brain and the body doesnt have time to adjust. These can be very painful, but arent as risky as high pressure spikes. The docs suspect low pressure because every time he is mobile, standing, or upright for very long, the pain seems to get worse. Why is he doing this after all this time? We dont know. And theyre still NOT 100% sure that is what is happening. We will be getting him mobile and walking around to see how the pain varies versus him lying down. He still may have to have the pressure monitor placed just inside his skull for a definite diagnosis. He has had this before, but is very scary! He was given Loratab early yesterday evening and finally after 3 days the headache subsided, but of course he has been laying flat and has an abdominal binder. This is basically like a big ace bandage around the waist. This helps the shunt not drain as fast. His arachnoid cyst shunt only drains a very small amount of fluid anyway, and only drains if there happens to be an accumulation of fluid within the cyst. There have only been good scans since the shunt placement so this really doesnt make sense to me. The binder also helps his body adjust to the low pressure changes, if that is what is going on. I am still a little suspect on that, but I am no doctor. However, I do know Landon has the best group of Neurosurgeons and is at the best hospital. AND, he is covered in the blood of our GREAT PHYSICIAN! Anyway, all has seemed promising and Landon has been pain free until he got up and moved around this morning. We both got very little sleep and he is exhausted, but now he says his head is starting to hurt a little. He is giving it a 3 on a scale of 1-10. This doesnt sound like bad news; however, this is how the pain starts out. The nurse gave him motrin to nip it so he is resting. If its pressure related, the motrin probably wont touch it and itll get worse once he is mobile and upright. If all this ends up being high pressure spikes we are dealing with something way different. The doctors will order additional tests as needed based on his symptoms. I have no idea what is going to happen or when well even be able to go home. All I can ask for is prayers for complete healing and answers! No parent wants to see their child suffer in any way. I realize this could be worse and our story may not compare to other critical stories, but this is our story. We are grateful for every prayer and thoughtful uplifting word. We have been completely showered with an abundance of love and prayers. Keep the prayers coming! Landon will just have another great testimony to share! Please keep sharing our page so we have even more praying!
