This is why Brazilians do it better. Samba is such an elastic pop - TopicsExpress

This is why Brazilians do it better. Samba is such an elastic pop idiom; a few simple rules, with infinite variations. This song is a traditional Brazilian theme, but not at all cliched or treadworn. To me, it represents the joy that comes from despair. Brazilians are the KING of melody; theyre often like mini anthems. Theres a complex conversation going on in this song, yet with no words. I love how they often involve a group of people singing the melody, and concerts with huge crowds singing a tune like this in unison; its a fantastic human phenomenon I dont think is repeated like that in any other country. Im not talking about some shallow, chest pounding patriotism. Eliane Elias is also an absolute jazz virtuoso; Ive had the pleasure of seeing her in concert and would go again if she came back to Tampa Bay. Shes an astonishing improviser, composer, vocalist, arranger, you name it. She is a Paulista (hailing from Sao Paulo), just like the amazing Ms. Phoebe Vecchioni; both incredibly talented human beings. I think Ms. Rositsa Aleksandrova would kick ass submitting a song like this to Americas Got Talent. Get your jazz chops in. ;) https://youtube/watch?v=fAWaHt2mIKA
