This is why housing which is affordable matters so much. There is no excuse for Americans to live at risk while we have to hear about opposition to market reforms from Wall St. Act to help and make sure your Congress member knows that you stand for decent housing for all. We only win when we get informed and invest in those who live and work here. Due to the market meltdown (2000-2008) the average age of a homeless person is 9. Women are still underpaid for their work and families suffer for it all. The cost of housing eats up more than 1/3rd monthly income. This is not a sustainable situation. As to food, Congress is busy cutting foodstamps for children and the elderly while handing subsidies to massive Ag corporations (see the Steve King Amendment and the Farm Bill.) Our taxes are being used for play by corrupt Congress members. This general rise in costs is directly attributable to the usual cash games by some in Congress and usual speculation makes life worse for the rest of us. If we dont get familiar with facts, we cant change this for the better. If we dont act, the next family to suffer will be our own. This has been a long time coming. Get informed and act. USA.gov
