This is why its imperative that we explore how to implement a post-scarcity economy, or one where people are allotted a base livable income by the govt since well soon have an economy that doesnt rely on people, at all. The only reason I would be scared by this is if we as a nation and as a species continue to think that a robust economy is one at or near full employment. Automation completely destroys that, and yet more and more we see people clinging to the hope of capitalism when they lose their jobs to robots. Video/game rental used to be a tremendous industry, and now it has all been replaced by a vending machine. Grocery stores now have auto-checkout, and soon will have auto-delivery, making storefronts unnecessary, just warehouses :P We need to figure out how to smoothly transition from a human labor based economy without impoverishing most of the populace and seeing society fall apart. I dont have much faith in the US govt on that score, however, Republican (definitely not), or Democrat. [E]
