This is why the US will do nothing to halt climate change. The current polling seems to show that the Republican Party will gain control of the US Senate in next months elections. The Republican Leaders in Congress claim that despite the overwhelming scientific evidence that climate change is human caused they dont accept that. And not only do they deny the cause, they claim that policies intended to halt the progress of human caused climate change are too costly and maybe unnecessary. The carbon energy corporations have bought and paid for the Republicans. The handful of conservative environmentalists have no clout in the Republican Party, so with the ascendance of the Republicans to increased power in the US Government it becomes almost a certainty that the progress of climate change will continue unabated until the situation becomes dire. In the future there will be great resentment of those who could have done something to reverse the coming cataclysm. I would imagine that people such as Paul Ryan will go down in history as the Nevile Chamberlain of the environment, but it wont do the planet any good for now.
