This is why we need protection for our endangered species. 14 ft Great Hammerhead shark caught off Trinidads North East Coast (June 2014). The Great Hammerhead is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List and it is protected by CITES Appendix II. In Trinidad and Tobago they receive no legal protection. Great Hammerheads, like most sharks, are vulnerable to overfishing because they mature slowly and have long gestation periods. They only give birth every two years. We need a shark sanctuary in #Trinidad & #Tobago. Sharks are apex predators that keep the ocean ecosystem in balance. Without sharks, the ocean will be much less productive. In recorded history, there have only been human 2 deaths attributed to Great Hammerhead sharks. (Marc)
