This is written in a quiet tone of voice: It should be no longer accepted to use national security as an excuse to do this or that without the ability to present to the public enough proof to support your actions. A proof is not an ambiguous enemy always looming in the distance, it is not the attack, the explosion or the atrocious acts of mindless massacres. A proof is something tangible, names and faces of perpetrators, how they do what they do, and who is behind them. Your public statements should rise to the occasion and be both intelligent and conclusive, not mere chatter about national security. Here is what your case looks like now: ‘We have to safeguard our national security from terrorists who are determined to annihilate our beloved country, but since we have nothing but a vague idea about who they are or where they come from, or how they can still do what they do, we kindly request you to put up with more attacks and more killings of innocent soldiers and civilians. But, guess what, even if we know who they are, we will not share the information with you since it might jeopardise our national security.’ On another hopeful note, the average Egyptian citizen should be proud of something absolutely amazing, which is currently having three presidents addressing him: one while on TV, another while in hospital, and a third while in prison. We are blessed! Saba7 elful.
