This isnt about the whats best for the people, or whether the ride-share service smart phone app Uber can garner public support to operate in Vegas. If it were, then the simple facts that Uber offers people who need rides faster service at lower prices than they can get otherwise, and is putting local residents to work in an economy rife with unemployment, would suffice. Its good for the people, and good for the local economy, therefore it should be supported and facilitated by the peoples elected representatives. But its not. Thats because its not about whats best for the people; its about money. And once it becomes about money, that means the system, and those working within it, have become corrupted. This is all about paying the elected mafia fees and percentages in order to be allowed to operate or stay in business (in whats supposed to be a free society). Its about bribing elected officials via campaign donations and whatever other avenues they use these days, in exchange for favorable legislation, particularly barriers to entry—as we are now seeing with Uber drivers. So petition all you want; but until you start handing over some serious jack to the powers that be—at least more than the taxi industry is currently handing over—I doubt youll see a change of heart come down from our rulers.
