This issue is complex - my thoughts which I have posted before I am athiest / agnostic (depending on the definition) - I have no religious axe to grind. However as a scientist (someone who seeks, and acts based on, factual knowledge) I regard all religions as culminations of thinking seeking to establish rules for peaceful coexistence, often setting out consequences for the breaking of these rules. Every one of these religions at some stage has and/or continues to be used for power grabs by the unscrupulous. This is possible as populations consist of a mix of people who can think for themselves and the majority who need to be led. This affords those in the minority a huge facility for misleading the majority in order to attain wealth and power. All religions have content that consists of decent values and also content that is unacceptable. The unacceptable parts often relate to how people from other religions are to be treated, which in turn often results from how they have been treated by people from other religions. It is also an observable fact that bad behavior is less prominent when more people have basic living necessities. With the developed nations having attained so much wealth from the resources of the other countries whether with military might as in the past or bribery of the leaders there (good old divide and rule) as is the norm these days, the values that they practice out of their religions have improved however corruption is still rife at the top levels in the religious hierarchies - largely driven by the greed for money. In the less wealthy countries the religions are still in a less developed state and still the instruments of control and competition with other religions. Some of the behaviors within these religious communities towards their own is unacceptable in the western world although similar behavior was the norm in their religious communities in the past. Their behaviors towards other religious communities is often stoked by the competition for resources. Describing any race or religious community becomes a difficult task within a sentence or paragraph if, as is only correct, you do not take into account the history and environmental factors that are driving their behavior. When a community that has been left uneducated or unable to participate in the machinations of democracy which itself is now morally bankrupt and totally hijacked by corporation and banking power, the history must be part of the evidence used to pass judgement on such a community. The thrust of The Venus Project is to recognize that the majority of bad behavior - individual to individual, one group to another , one nation to another , is driven by the need for basic living necessities. With the state of technology and the existing Earths resources it is possible to alleviate the scarcity of basic living necessities for the whole world population, provided the instrument of creation of scarcity, the monetary system, can be eliminated.
