This issue of illegal immigration is a tough one. While I dont - TopicsExpress

This issue of illegal immigration is a tough one. While I dont blame people for wanting a better way of life for themselves, neither am I crazy about the inundation of people were getting. Here is a harsh statement; as harsh as it is, it doesnt make it any less true. The cultures of the countries south of us are agrarian in nature, where the emphasis is on the ability to provide labor for harvesting and managing crops. Our culture has become more technological than agrarian, and the sad but brutal truth is that we have more than enough people to till the fields and harvest the crops. When I lived in Houston, I often asked the rhetorical (and politically incorrect) question, How many people do I need to mow my lawn? Again, as harsh as it may be, thems the facts. And until the Hispanic immigrant culture starts emphasizing education over agriculture, every body crossing our borders is a drain on our resources, not a positive. We already have enough people who are going hungry, and have been denied opportunities that every American citizen should have; I dont think adding to that segment of our country helps us in any way. But then I look at the pictures of the 6 year old kid and think, If I were his parent, and in their situation, what would I do? I am hard pressed to think I would do anything differently. Like I said, it is a really, really tough question, and unfortunately for all the politicians who are saying otherwise, there is NOT an easy answer. Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free....as long as they dont swim across a river to get here.
