This just in from Texas Department of Criminal Justice: they have confirmed that, about 7:30 a.m. this morning, a transport bus, traveling from the Middleton Unit in Abilene, to the Sanchez Unit in El Paso, left the roadway, near mile marker 100 on I-20 and collided with a Union Pacific train. 2 correctional officers and 8 offenders were killed. 1 staff member and 4 offenders were taken to Medical Center Hospital for treatment. The investigation into the accident is on going. More information will be released as it becomes available. TDCJ officials issued this statement; Its with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of those killed and injured this morning in a tragic accident.
