This just in from the Surfline XXL Forecast for Europe: High potential for a major swell to hit Europe over Sun/Mon+ (27th-28th+), first for Ireland/England over Sunday, then eventually France/Spain/Portugal late Sunday into Monday. A large winter storm system is currently pushing off the coast of Newfoundland, where models are in agreement for it to strengthen over the next 48hrs, while slowly tracking eastward across the North Atlantic. This storm is forecast to develop a strong fetch with wind speeds reaching up to 40-50kts+, which will be aimed right at Europe. As a result, a large WNW swell is lining up to rapidly build into Ireland and England over Sunday, peaking over the PM (first for Ireland in the afternoon then England in the evening). This swell will then make its way to France/Spain/Portugal, building in late Sunday into Monday. If this storm behaves as forecast, then well exposed big-wave spots will produce waves up to 30-40 feet-plus (likely larger sets for select breaks) during the peak of this swell for each region. Unfortunately, conditions are looking to be unfavorable for most areas (likely some protected nooks), as the storm front arrives with the swell, bringing breezy onshore westerly flow and stormy/rainy weather.
