This lady passed earlier this year, one of the last of Balis master weavers. I drew this a couple of weeks ago, and it is framed, ready to head over to Nusa Penida, to her family. If you would like to read her story, it is in two chapters in the book Bali Soul Journals (Facebook page same name, or creatavisionpublishing). In recent days, I have come under attack by a handful of younger (male) expats for not getting Bali. To be honest, I dont think any of us do, entirely. The moment we declare that we understand, we have completely missed the point. But we can give back, by trying to understand. I do find the westernisation of Bali hard, but that is inevitable. However, the passing of this incredible lady is a testimony to a cultural heritage worth preserving.
