This laminitic horse has been with us for three weeks already, and in spite of his owners efforts to bring in vets and farriers he has only gotten worse. Week one he was ok, very sore, but everything seemed promising. He moved around slowly on his own and rested a lot. We put him on bute and a no-grain diet and let him rest. About a week later I come back after lunging to find him absolutely hobbling lame, unable to walk. I thought hed gotten an abscess but no, he had just come back from the farrier outside. In addition, his owner had a vet look at him, who insisted that phenylbutazone should always be administered intramuscularly, so now we have a bulging infected neck dripping pus to deal with as well (I had just cleaned it here). Now we hope this poor guy can be left in peace for a while. We took his shoes off again, but he still wont get up voluntarily and is in a lot of pain. He is just exhausted. He still has a bit of spirit though, and although he is constantly lying down he drinks and eats very well. He is very much loved by his owners son, who always too good care of him, so we really hope he can improve!
