This last Saturday Night at the Montpelier Motor Speedway you might have missed...... Bill Lewis picked up first win of the season at the MMS in the UMP Modified division driving for long time car owner, Gary and Roberta Wissler. The win marked the 35th for Lewis at MMS. Lewis dedicated the win to Ed Saylor who passed away last week. Saylor was a long time competitor at MMS. It was Ryan Cripe early and often in the UMP Modified division as Cripe led the biggest share of the UMP Modified division feature. A late race restart made things tough for Cripe as it rebunched the field and placed Lewis, Sherman, and Lomax on his bumper. It was a war at the front of the race from that point on. In the end, Cripe came home with a solid 4th place finish against tough competition. The work area was busy during the Modified B Main as teams fought for the top 5 positions to make the feature. Showing good sportsmanship, Todd Sherman and his crew were busy in the work area changing a flat right front for Jess Rush and later removing broken bumper bars for Forest Bennett. Because of the work area, both made it back onto the track and qualified for the A Main event. New Paris, Ohio’s Rob Scarrette made his 3rd MMS start this season and came away with this his 3rd top 5. Scarrette has posted an average finish of 4th this season which is the 3rd highest finish average. Only Tony Anderson and Josh Malott have a higher finish average in the Super Street division. 2012 Race Winner, Landon Miller, and Andrew Clark both made their first starts of 2013 at MMS in the Super Street division and definitely came out swinging as they both won heats. In the feature, Miller looked to be his way to the feature win leading the bulk of the feature with a considerable lead before coming to a stop in turn 2. Clark took over the lead and later waged a great back and fourth battle with Tony Anderson. Mike Oler posted his highest finish of the season with a 4th place run this past Saturday night. Oler was in good company in the top 5 surrounded by drivers who have won a lot of races through the years such as: Turner, Holt, Josh Owens, and Glenn Bradley. Oler is having a nice season and currently 5th in track championship points. Sean Torre came to the speedway loaded with a new Thunder Car and turned in his best finish of the season with a top 10 finish. After having a sour sounding engine during the heat race, Shane Richardson had things patched up for the feature and posted his first top 10 finish of the season. Gary Griffith made it 3 for 3 in the Mod Lite division this season. Griffith’s win marked the 21st of career at MMS and is currently the all time win leader for the division. It was a side by side finish at MMS this past Saturday night in the FWD Compacts as Brandon McDaries picked up his 5th MMS win of the season. McDaries is having the quite the rookie season so far and at this point is the all time win leader for the division. 3 of the 5 winners from Ohio including 2 from Lima Anderson and McDaries, and Griffith who makes the 3.5 hour trip one way to MMS throughout the summer. The Family Night concept is now in its 2nd season, and is popular for the fans in attendance. Drivers were passing out all kinds of items to the kids in the pits including T-Shirts, Glow Sticks, Autographed Pictures, Candy, and more… Our drivers and fans are the best! Thanks for making it a special night for the young fans. We will host another Family Night on August 24. Don’t miss it!
