This last year has brought many challenges for me especially - TopicsExpress

This last year has brought many challenges for me especially health wise but it has reinforced one of the greatest lessons you can learn, listen to your heart and you will hear God. What’s Jeff saying? Has he gone off the deep end and lost it because he’s hearing voices? No I am not having a John Denver moment like in the movie “Oh God!” What I am referring to is listening to that internal voice often referred to as your heart which guides you away from danger, toward love or what direction your life should take. In today’s world, we have become often times deaf to this incredibly important guidance for our lives because it is drowned out by all the external noise coming at us from 360 degrees. What used to be external influence only from the people around us principally our family and friends has morphed into an all-out media assault from the time we wake up until we go to sleep sometimes even invading our unconscious dreams. This screaming assault on our senses can quickly drown out the most important voice we should be listening to, our heart which is actually God telling us what we should be doing. During my time of health struggles and really ever since I graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2011, I have been ignoring the direction my heart has been telling me to take. I have been determined to get a job in a pursuit of gaining financially. I even went back to UMD to further enhance my credentials with a third masters degree to help me overcome the greatest obstacle to employment, my disability. The whole time I was pursuing this path, my internal voice kept getting louder and louder that I was on the wrong path and pursuing the wrong goal. This past fall it began screaming at me to change my course and I believe physically manifested itself through my health issues as it told me to start writing about my life’s journey since I was diagnosed with ALS and what I had learned along the way to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds with God’s help of course. Unfortunately one of the same traits, stubbornness, which God had blessed me to overcome overwhelming obstacles was now interfering with the direction He wanted me to take. It is when we truly listen to our hearts that we hear God guiding us, comforting us and generally telling us how to live our best life. It is when we ignore our hearts and start listening to the magnitude of external voices coming at us that our lives derail and we most definitely do not live our life. Needless to say, I have stopped my pursuit of a third masters degree and dedicated myself to writing particularly to weekly entries in this blog and completing my book, Philosophy of a Dead Man.
