This letter was just sent over: It has been an eventful week for the San Bernardino Animal Shelter. Wings of Rescue successfully launched their first rescue mission of rehoming a combined 100 death row dogs from both Devore and San Bernardino Animal Shelters. The Western University of Veterinary Medicines sponsorship of the Adoption Event at San Bernardino Animal Shelter that ran on Saturday was a success and 62 dogs found their new home. The community effort behind these two events has been enormous. It is with displeasure to inform you of the gross breech, and tremendously poor Public Relation actions that occurred in the midst of these two events. On Saturday morning the Wings of Rescue aircraft was being loaded with all the fortunate dogs in donated crates, after vetting funded by donors, and cared for by volunteers. This was an all volunteer effort and supported by donor funds including the fuel and aircraft time, and flight crew. This effort was clearly advertised in many media venues that it was a Combined 100 dog Rescue / Rehoming to No Kill Shelters. Sirs, as businessmen you can appreciate the clarity of such an advertised product, Doug Smith the Supervising Animal Control Officer-II at SBC clearly did not with his ominous and false email. On Wed, Apr 23, 2014 at 3:34 PM From: Smith, Doug There is a group that has stated they are coming to adopt every available dog from our shelter; friendly, sick, aggressive, fearful, etc. We are just waiting for them to follow thru on their stated commitment. Should they fail to respond, tomorrow may be a different story. Doug Smith Supervising Animal Control Officer-II Shelter Services Western University of Veterinary Medicine sponsored the adoption event this past Saturday 4/26, advertising event hours 10:00 - 4:00 PM. I applauded their effort, the community support, and rehoming of 62 shelter dogs, however SBC breeched their implied agreement with this sponsor. The first dog was removed for Euthanasia before 2:00 PM. From 2:00 pm on 4/26 during an adoption event, dogs were taken to the Euthanasia room one by one, with the public viewing the walk away, and kennel card removal. The Public Relations nightmare created by this callous shelter is beyond ANY practical business practices, and has further embarrassed San Bernardino and those Members of the City Council. This smacks at the very foundation of sponsorship, volunteerism and Good Will. The following dogs were put to death Saturday 4/26 during the adoption event hours: BRONCO - ID #A403151, available 4/22 Killed 4/26 CHITA - ID #A403152, available 4/22 Killed 4/26 RUCA - ID #A463507, available4/22 Killed 4/26 SOCKS - ID #A463510, available4/22 Killed 4/26 JAMAICA - ID #A463813, available4/22 Killed 4/26 BLAKE - ID #A463843, available4/22 Killed 4/26 JESSE - ID #A463896, available4/23 Killed 4/26 LIBBY - ID #A464003, available4/24 Killed 4/26 DALTON - ID #A464057, available4/25 Killed 4/26 Friday 4/25 at the end of the day prior to the adoption event scheduled: Jillian - #A463677 killed 4/25, available date 4/18 Joe - #A463786 killed 4/25, available date 4/19 Additionally, I am reporting to you a violation of Animal Shelter Law. Reba #A464235, located at SBC is a small low riding mixed breed dog in Kennel with construction bucket as the only available water source, and the dog can not access the water. Please see the video captured on 4/25 m.youtube/watch?v=k7a0efW-t6c&feature=youtu.be I am aware that several City Council Members are concerned and are trying to take action, however the actions of the Shelter are very much working against every effort. The public Relations damage this weekend is immeasurable. This needs to be addressed. Please contact the shelter immediately regarding the lack of water resource for above dog. If water dishes are in shortage, a simple mind would figure - large bucket, Large dog, but NO, large dogs had small water dishes and this small dog was denied proper access to water which is in violation of Haydens Law, a charge for animal abuse, and is simply inhumane.
