This looks like where Bill Gates and the educators that came up with Common Core were looking for inspiration. Now maybe this is a concept you could show children but I dont honestly believe the Chinese who are storming the world with new ideas, technology, and an economy growing like crazy are showing their students this slow, antiquated way of doing multiplication. Now, the reason I say slow is because Ive been out of school 38 years and I did these two problems in less than 30 seconds. It took the person in the video 2:29 to complete these 2 problems. We need to teach kids to add, subtract, multiply and divide the old fashioned way. It works! Now we know most of them are going to be using calculators or computers anyway, but I feel they should still memorize the multiplication tables and learn the old methods because when the grids collapse, theyll still be able to use their brains.
