This lunch time I finally managed to touch base with the new owners of The Star Pub in Fishponds and what a great Irish family they are with a vision for our community. Unlike The New Moon, this pub has been redeveloped by this family team who have invested into Fishponds adding a second pub to their portfolio. This is now the sister pub of The Village Inn in Nailsworth which also has its own Micro Brewery and as Mark Heslop has kindly shared on thi page, The Star has its own special ale called The Black Arab to represent the original home of Bristol Rovers who met in this building. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1883%E2%80%9384_Black_Arabs_F.C._season The heritage of this pub has been uncovered as well; as the family team started to redevelop the building they found that parts which had been covered up during the 1960s to modernise the building are in fact worth uncovering to restore that heritage back to its original look to offer a pub which is suitable for todays community or heritage restoration and architectural decor. The Star is based next to wonderful communities in Greater Fishponds with an estate behind the pub with Victorian homes matching the same architecture found in St Andrews and Henleaze areas of Bristol. Now that community in Fishponds finally has a community pub for everyone to enjoy which is child and dog friendly as well. It will not be completely finished for another two weeks but its open and quickly taking shape. Two young men at the bar shared that they love the new pub and have already adopted it as their local. The pub skittle alley has been restored as well and this is still a couple of weeks from being completely finished along with some other changes. People are especially encouraged to come along on a Sunday evening to enjoy playing skittles for free who havent played before to try it as amateurs and a new skittles team is being recruited along with local darts teams for the new boards going up shortly. The plan is for The Star to be a traditional old fashioned community pub for everyone, youll not be able to buy a latté or treat this as a café but an ordinary coffee and tea will be available if youd like one in the same way as The Queens Head or The Masons Arms which are other traditional pubs. I mentioned about the gardens and shared that local people have shared their concerns about groups sitting outside on the benches with cans of beer when the pub is closed. Mr Hawes said those days are behind us now, our plans will see the front and the back made in to closed landscaped gardens by my nephew who is a professional landscaper and this will all be in place by next spring. I asked if he realised that the Greater Fishponds area had won awards for Britain in Bloom - South West in Bloom by Fishponds taking Gold Pennant and he hadnt realised but he is very keen to hear from the HEFs in Bloom team and have his new pub take part in making Greater Fishponds an even better floral community for 2015. Live music will be here weekly and performed by those who also perform in The Village Inn in Nailsworth villageinn-nailsworth.co.uk, a nice group who are entertainers to just have a good time and meet for the love of music.. The high chairs in the pub all swing around as well so that people can turn to face the music and back to the bar for conversation.. The future for The Star is shining bright. A pub in fitting for a vibrant community for all to enjoy.
