This made me stop and think. I DID do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but now....Im pretty sure I should have thought it out a bit more before I did. Not because it isnt a worthy cause, or because those who suffer from the disease dont deserve the research $$s, or that the cause didnt need a bit more publicity. But as Mr. Rowe points out, the damage can be greater than we realize when a huge outpouring like this happens. And, more importantly, I should have thought it out more to make sure what I was doing lined up with my personal vision and values. This is a lesson learned for me, and I hope, for all of us who tend to jump on the viral video trains. Im not usually one to do that, but the IDEA of helping people who are suffering from such a horrible disease overrode the REALITY of what helping them, and others like them, should truly look like. My bad. Not because it was WRONG, but because it wasnt RIGHT for me and my lifes mission. Give on, my friends, but GIVE SMART.
