This makes me think of two things: Looking back at our circumstances in life, we often see reminders of our strengths (how we survived). Looking forward at life, we see our potential (which doesnt have to be defined by the past). Our future can be strengthened and shaped by the past (a positive rooted in hope and courage), but it doesnt have to be defined by the past (a negative control or stronghold). A third thought: This is also a great reminder about judging a book by the cover, because potential of someone or something forgotten or neglected can be a very surprising thing. Often, it is a hidden treasure discovered.
