This mama has a big smile on her face. 😄 Both my boys are doing great! Dawson has gained some more weight and has reached 4 lbs 0.4 oz! His feeds have been increased again today. He has surpassed the 1800 gram goal that had been set for extubation. Dr. Rodriguez is working on getting him scheduled for a bronchoscope in the OR with Dr. Glenn (the same surgeon that did his heart surgery) to be sure there is nothing structural that could be blocking his airway and hindering his efforts to breathe. We anticipate another try at extubation late this week or early next week. Dawson has had the sweetest night nurse named Shannon this week. She said that late last night, she gave him his pacifier and he really worked on it. His primary nurse Lisa has seen cues from him that really made her wish she could give him a bottle. Once we get this breathing tube out of the way, it sounds like bottle feeding may be an easy transition. Lets hope so! I assume that most of you know that Cohen had a very successful surgery today for the permanent shunt. Dr. Reisner was pleased with the outcome, saying it went beautifully well. He is resting now at Scottish Rite in Atlanta under the watchful eye of a wonderful nurse named April. She said he received Tylenol at 6:30 and doesnt seem to be in any pain. His incision sites look good. He is EXTUBATED and back on the nasal cannula, but hes receiving some breath support from the ventilator machine through the cannula. April thinks hes still too sleepy from the surgery to remember to breathe all the time. But hes doing most of it on his own. They are planning to transport him back to Macon tomorrow, though we dont have a time scheduled yet. They weighed him and he is currently 5 lb 4.7 oz!! Its possible some of that weight may be extra fluid, so dont be surprised or disappointed if he loses a little. That is, after all, an 8 oz gain over the last two days. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your overflowing love, support, and prayers for both of our boys and especially for Cohens surgery today. All of you are very special to us and we hope you know how very grateful and humbled we are by your kindness. Have a great night everybody and sleep well. I know I will!
