This may be an unpopular stand among some of my friends, but this - TopicsExpress

This may be an unpopular stand among some of my friends, but this is an issue I have VERY strong opinions about. I spent most of the last 20 some years working in the food industry for minimum wage. Youd think Id be sympathetic to those seeking a 15 dollar an hour minimum wage, but youd be extremely wrong. Most of those who CHOOSE to work in lower paying jobs do so because they lack experience, personal motivation to better themselves, or are incompetent or lazy, yes, myself included. For my part, I was dealing with some psychiatric issues that left me utterly without a sense of self worth, along with a large dose of mental laziness. I had a decent education and plenty of managerial experience, but chose to squander it. However, I always knew that changing my circumstances was completely within my own power whenever I chose. The wage should be commensurate with what you bring to the table for your employer. If you work hard and SMART you will be promoted and make more money. No one should ever be satisfied with being complacent. These wages were meant for entry level trainees, not for people looking to make a career of these jobs. Keeping wages low not only decreases runaway inflation, but should provide motivation to constantly improve. I dont know about you, but I NEVER get what I order from a fast food drive through. When people can demonstrate ability to do the simplest of jobs, then well discuss better pay.
