This may be of interest to many from Elkins Park: Reserve your seat today as we bring together experts in international law, religious law and Zionism to discuss important issues on Tuesday, March 18 at noon: The Institute for Jewish Ethics and the Zionist Organization of America’s Greater Philadelphia District will present a forum on the topic “The Ethics of Supporting Israel: Legal, Practical and Jewish Perspectives” on Tuesday, March 18, from noon to 2 p.m., at Mekor Habracha/Center City Synagogue, 2000 Chestnut Street, Second floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103. With Israel constantly in the news and the subject of much discussion, this event will explore and seek to remove any ambiguity about support for Israel from the perspectives of an international legal scholar, an expert on Torah and Talmud (Jewish law), and a soldier who has fought in battle for Israel. Panelists will be: Professor Harry Reicher, adjunct professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss “Israel and International Law: Support vs. Boycott.” Reicher has been involved in landmark cases in the areas of international human rights, and international environmental law. From 1995 to 2004, he was representative to the United Nations of Agudath Israel World Organization, a 101-year-old international NGO. Benjamin Anthony, founder of Our Soldiers Speak, will discuss “A Practical Look Through the Eyes of an Israel Defense Forces Sergeant.” A heavy-machine-gunner, he has served as a combat soldier along Israel’s northern borders and in the area of Judea and Samaria / the West Bank. He has addressed audiences at more than 300 campuses across three continents. Rabbi Isaac Leizerowski, religious leader of Congregation Beth Medrash HaRav, will discuss “Israel’s Spiritual Significance to the Jewish People.” A scribe, he serves on the faculty of Abrams Hebrew Academy. Jerome M. Marcus, a principal of the law firm Marcus & Auerbach, will serve as moderator. This event is approved by PACLE for 2 credits: (1 hour ethics, 1 hour substantive).
