This may have been discussed before, but I thought this Barrie Examiner article from May 15, 1928 was an interesting little glimpse into the past. FIRST HOSPITAL HERE HAD 4 BEDS -- 2 for male & 2 for female patients The history of Barrie hospital movement dates back to a public meeting held on June 27, 1889, and the first funds raised were $500 raised by the ladies by a bazaar held in the Town Hall. Along with subscriptions this provided the necessary amount to purchase a two-storey brick cottage on Duckworth St., near Ardaghs grove. This was bought in 1891 for $1100. The Barrie General Hospital was incorporated on December 15, 1891. google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CDgQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.ourontario.ca%2FPartners%2FBarrie%2FBaPL002754753pf_0414.pdf&ei=3ZShVKJWkKfIBKi8gpgD&usg=AFQjCNGWluP2nYgKtbYkIy6Ql_cYZ6s-oA&bvm=bv.82001339,d.aWw
