This may not be a big whoop to anyone else, but Im proud that I can pill cats, give them meds in oral syringes, give muscle injections and subcutaneous injections, as well as administer subcutaneous hydration. Peaches, who fights a little, but mostly growls and hisses, is very adept at anticipating whats going to occur next, so that this morning she disappeared before I could put the Elizabeth collar on her. And she was too smart to make a Peaches-size lump under the bedspread. I also had to smash up a prednisone pill and mix it with her food because I couldnt get it far enough down her throat for her to swallow it. She held it in her mouth, then pushed it out with her tongue. But fundamentally, Peaches loves me, and if I do things correctly and have a good technique, Ill succeed with her. I found this out this evening when I got her to open her mouth wider, then just basically threw that big antibiotic pill down her throat. No one was more surprised than Peaches, who then had to swallow and lick her nose. I gave her a delicious dinner after that, and stood by to encourage her to eat. As soon as she swallowed the last kibble, I whipped out that Elizabeth collar and put it on her. Her entire personality changed--its not for nothing that its called the Cone of Shame. So I apologized to her and scratched her head. Poor little Miss Peaches! But shes getting better, bit by bit.
