This may sound strange, but I take great solace in the fact that I am 72 and will not live long enough to see the great changes coming down the pike. It is hard to imagine the arrogant avarice that permitted us to consume the billions of passenger pigeons and cod of this earth. Or, simply cause the near extinction of hundreds of millions of buffalo, simply to deprive the native Americans of their main source of food, clothing and shelter. Americans are scrambling to save the Monarch Butterfly and I understand why. Malathion and other chemicals used in Michigan to control mosquitos wiped out butterfly populations. I thought the Monarch had disappeared by 1970, only to move to Monterey, CA and discovered that they had not vanished from the face of the earth. This time, however, they may not be that lucky. I do not want to live in a world without birds and bees. If you dont, you may have to wrest the power from the corporations and governments yourselves. Clearly they have no intention of saving them OR you.
