This message is for All Humanitarian Partners, The Pakistan Military has launched a fully-fledged military offensive by the name of Zerb-e-Azb against the militants in North Waziristan. The Government of Pakistan was forced to launch this operation without prior warning. The local people residing in North Waziristan were not able to be informed or notified of this operation prior to its launch. Had prior warning been initiated, the local people could or would have been able to move to safer locations. As of 23rd June 2014, more than 390,000 people have been displaced to date from North Waziristan. Thousands of families are still trapped and struggling in this military operation as the Army has imposed a curfew. The people who are stranded in this situation inside the Agency and those who have already been able to evacuate are facing vast difficulties in appalling conditions. There is currently no official humanitarian assistance being provided to these helpless IDPs from local and/or foreign agency/donors. The Government of Pakistan has not yet been able to chalk out an official evacuation plan to provide emergency and or relief assistance to the displaced people affected by this war. It is absolutely essential that these innocent people who have been forced to flee their homes and livelihoods are provided with sufficient humanitarian assistance. These people need the attention of the humanitarian community now. They need to be provided with food, clean water, shelter and basic health on an emergency basis. Aizan Development is a partner of IST, which is an NGO based in Waziristan and Peshawar. IST is an active partner organization of the Tribal Development Network (TDN) and Aizan Development is also part of this network. IST is currently working on the ground in Bannu (a town near North Waziristan) providing assistance to IDPs. Although IDP camps have been set up in Bannu by the FATA Disaster Management Authority, the facilities provided here are not sufficient. More help and facilities are needed. IST so far has organized a free medical camp in Bannu and distributed food and non-food items with the support of the local Philanthropists. To help us with our efforts further, Aizan Development, IST and TDN are appealing to all the humanitarian organizations and community to come forward in this hour of need and show compassion for these innocent IDPs and play their respective roles in providing and distributing humanitarian assistance. Thank you.
