This message is from Christina: First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of prayers, love and encouragement. It means more than you can possibly imagine. This morning started out with good news. Johns CT scan remained unchanged from yesterday. His brother, Kenny, and I spent the day trying to keep The Great Houdini from escaping his wrist restraints. Every movement John was making was with great purpose and intent and we were so excited to see this! If his hands were loose, they went straight to the irritation site (i.e., IVs, oxygen tube, etc.). He tried to sit up and continued to throw a leg over the side of the bed. Things began to change and John was becoming distressed. A fever started to rise between 103-105 degrees. Breathing became very labored and his heart rate was rising to 118. X-Rays showed the beginning blossom of pneumonia. Antibiotics were administered, and an oxygen bag replaced a mask, but all other tests were in the normal range. This keeps us hopeful. It was explained to us that John is experiencing the mother of all headaches and will continue to do so for at least the next month. There is still no speech. He appears to follow some basic commands and completely ignore others. Swelling of the brain is continuing as they expected for up to 12 days after surgery. It is hoped that today was the plateau and the swelling will increase in small increments before it starts to decrease. We learned that John is becoming over sensitized. He may not understand all we are saying and when we continue to talk, touch, encourage movements, etc., its just really frustrating him. This is a learning experience that I hope no one ever has to go through. We also discovered we need to limit visits over the next few days to immediate family and keep him calm so his healing can continue. I can tell you this man is strong as an ox and Kenny and I had difficulty controlling his movements. This gives us so much hope that John will make a full recovery. Your prayers are definitely working. God bless!
