This message is to provide information to parents/guardians of high school and middle school students. School administration has become aware of new versions of inappropriate internet usage by students during the first two weeks of the new school year. Please know that such usage is occurring on students’ personal devices. School technology limits and filters students’ abilities to access sites and applications being misused. Information regarding a threat/harassment on a personal device was received by the Seneca Falls Police Department and School District late Thursday afternoon. Once learned, an investigation immediately ensued. A collaborative effort enabled the SFPD and SFCSD administration to identify the users and address the situation. The situation was resolved within a couple of hours on Thursday afternoon. The investigation by law enforcement continued this morning. Contact with necessary students and parents was completed. Appropriate action was taken by the SFPD and SFCSD. Once again, please know that the situation was addressed swiftly and thoroughly. The investigation revealed that no students or staff were at risk. We would ask parents/guardians to take an active role in monitoring their child’s internet use. That can occur by checking cell phones and computers. We would also ask for your assistance by supporting and promoting the districts policy of off and away for personal devices. We thank you in advance for your assistance.
