This might be borderline relevance because it is history but it reflects the attitude to people who are different so Ill take my chances with moderation Back in the 80’s when important people were met at the airport by busy newspaper reporters who could take their mind off the corrugated iron sheds that we called our international airport and make them feel welcome I wanted to share a little bit of history, a snippet, just a few lines and for all those who are fed up with Indigenous rights this one should appeal because it highlights Indigenous wrongs. This is about Henry Wiley Fancher, a wealthy Texas Rancher. Wouldn’t the comedians have fun with that these days – Fancher the Rancher. He came to do business with the Premier of the State of Queensland, Sir Johannes Bjelke-Petersen. You will probably remember him because he was into nuts and his wife became famous for her pumpkin scones. Fancher described Australia as ‘truly wunnerful’ because he liked “a nigra in a nigra’s place” and in Australia his son would not be ‘seduced by coloured girls’. When told that there were Aborigines in Queensland, he said “ I’ve heard you treat them like our injuns. You put them on reservations and they’re no problem. Is that so?” It was so.
