This might be long and rambling, so if you arent up for it, I get it. Over the next week there will be much written and said about the murder of an American president. I had been planning to write something on the 22nd but I cant wait that long. Im a fan of Sunday news shows and this morning I was watching Bob Schieffer and a panel of men who were there talk about Kennedy. I really want my friends, those who were either too young to remember or not yet born to watch the broadcast and documentaries of those who know, those who are still here that were there that day. If there was ever a time to forsake the irresponsible and self gratifying would be newscasters of Fox Noise, CNN, etc for the sake of learning truth about a black week in our history, this would be it. I realized how grateful I am for the true newsmen and journalists who witnessed and reported the event. The Bob Schieffers, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. And of course, the voice of America during that time, Walter Cronkite. The mans heart was touched, his eyes swelled and his voice cracked as he reported the assasination, the moon landing, viet nam. These men reported facts, truth and reason without interjecting their egos and bravado into the situation like so many of the news people and journalists now who so love the sound of their own voice. This was one of the darkest days in modern american history. Talk to your parents and grandparents. Learn what life and the mood of the country was like for that week at least. Let your children watch. If they can at all comprehend death and grief, let them see the first public murder captured on film and the repercussions to our nation. Let them separate the difference between the video games they play and real human violence and grief. Let them sensitize themselves, feel the emotion. Learn, and let your children learn. Its the 50th anniversary. This is the best chance youll ever have to put yourselves in that place, at that time. Please dont be too busy. After all, and entire nation came to a standstill, was glued to their TVs, wept and grieved the loss for the family, the government, the nation for a week. But then, Im just an old (%*#er, what do I know....
