This might be worth a few minutes to read through! I saw someone post a pony pin that was cleverly installed on the dash of theyre car. It looks great! It inspired me to share a project that I have been involved with. When I was in Vegas for the 50th with my friend Seamus Rooney we discussed a pen design for hours, if not days! We are both pen makers / wood turners. After much work and the very detailed craftsmanship of shaping these pins and casting them on carbon fiber barrels. These beautiful barrels are going to take shape and become very unique fountain pens. The pictures are of the raw barrels just out of the casting pot before turning them on the lathe. The material around the carbon fiber and customized pins is clear casting resin commonly used with pen turners. These barrels will be turned by hand on a lathe and polished to a crystal clear finish. Once they take shape they are going to be assembled with components from a very limited pen edition called a Statesmen. These pens were numbered with each pen being numbered 1 - 500 with there numbered engraved onto the top cap off they pen with a matching card of authenticity. The pen parts are made of rhodium and gold. Including a very high quality solid gold fountain nib. In the pen turners world these pens would be considered priceless. The kits were only offered for a very short period of time about 10 years ago. I purchased two of these kits at that time to save for the prefect pen. In celebration of the mustangs 50th I could not think of a better use! We purchased the special Shelby pin from Shelby America while in Vegas with the 2014 GT500 Wounded Warrior Family Support Mustang. I found these pony pins shortly after and the work began. These barrels will be turned and the pens will be assembled in a couple of weeks. Thought I would share a preview of the only two pens of there kind during the process of them becoming works of art. The Shelby pin will be the lower barrel of the pin with the pony being the top barrel of the pen. We are both excited to get these completed as they have been a work in progress since late April. Of course the idea can be duplicated, however it would be near impossible to copy these exactly due to the hand work craftsmanship of Seamus and the rarity of the components from the pen we are using to make them. I welcome your feedback and questions. I hope you enjoy the post. I will of course post pictures of the pens once they have been completed.
