This might help explain how the records are set or were back in 2002 when this article was written. All the figures are correct but dont include the standing 1/4 mile which we set at 12.94@ 98.5 mph.Things change and the perameters for distances may i.e Richard baker did a flying mile where as I did a flying 1/4 which means you do a total distance of 1.25 miles (crap yourself with the engine screaming that long). If you read the article it states unofficial which means the governing body didnt ratify it which at the time were the ACU.I have my own opinions of the ACU which I wont mention on here incase of a court case. What needs to be clarified is what exactly is a record and to be honest do you want to hold it.A good example is the track record at Santa Pod. The only official held record is by the NSA which I hold at 13.35 sec.I could beat that in practise and there are plenty that have gone way under it but because it was broke at an NSA meeting it stands but worthless claiming. So you get to the present day.No one has attempted the ACU records since I had a go in 2002 and because they didnt ratify them I cant claim them. Therefore the current record officially stands at 13.22 sec which is held byTrevor Harrison set some 20 years ago.We were capable of beating it 12 years ago and with todays engines and ones in development is should be and can be smashed. My opinion is that a defind governing body needs to be set up not only to set the rules eg engine ,cc limit ,chassis ,fairing and so on but capable of being representative at all meetings to ratify an attempt which to be honest will have cost someone or team a nice five figure sum to get there on that day. So now you can see why there is confusion over who holds what.Someone goes to a meeting does a good time and and everyone says new world record.By all means pat someone on the back and applude there achievement but records must by ratified by the official governing body which ever is appointed at that time in history.Yes claim fastest time spped ect but maybe nows the chance to set up a body that everyone agrres to understands and makes it clear. With all the talk of development bike building and teams attempting speed/time records no would seem the best time to do it so all their effort can be properly set in stone.Remember if someone holds a record officially it will push others to hold/break it pushing the boundries of the Lambretta even further.Rant over
