This might ignite some debate ----- Babylon 5 vs Star Trek B5 - The screenplay was most likely written in the 80s. Way too much reference on the cold war, and emphasis on Ivanova being Russian and doing Russian things The script was most probably sitting in a drawer for at least ten years before getting close to film production. Meanwhile, the writer must have encountered the writers of Star Trek, and I have no doubt many of the Star Trek episodes and characters were ripping off that nameless dudes writing (B5). As an example: the telepath evolving into energy creature. Telepaths are part of the main storyline of Babylon 5, while Voyager and the telepath Ocampa on board was quickly written out of the story as B5 came on screen (yes, unfortunately, B5 was a year late) The lizard ambassador, sleeping on hot stones, having a suspicious character no one trusts yet he is always true and constantly proves himself being the right guy = Garak of DS9 The whole story of Centari occupation, resistance fights of the Narn, then Earth and humans come along and try to keep the fragile balance with sweat, hard work and constant diplomacy focused on a space station = Bajor and Cardassia on Deep Space 9. The only twist is that this time the lizards are the oppressors and the rational thinking race, and Bajor is the oppressed spiritual world. The Star Trek writers did not sweat too much to conceal this either. DS9 and Voyager was aired a year earlier than B5, still why do I insist Star Trek stole the ideas and not Babylon 5 is the knock off? Simple. As I said, B5 has the cold war written all over it. Clearly it was written way earlier than the new Star Trek series (the real knock offs) came out. B5 died in a few seasons. Star Trek made to the pantheon of eternal fans.
