This month, November 2013, MoFED is expected to read Sierra Leone’s national budget for 2014. In the last three years commitment to the Abuja Declaration has fluctuated. In 2011 the government of Sierra Leone committed 11% to health, in 2012 that percentage decreased to 7.4%. Last year however, the Government of Sierra Leone committed to 10.5% of its total budget to health for 2013. The Budget Advocacy Consortium (which includes Save the Children, World Vision, Budget Advocacy Network, , MamaYe, Health Alert, Health for All Coalition and WASH Consortium) recognises efforts made by government to increase health expenditure, yet we know that allocated funds are not getting to where they are most needed on time. In July, six months into 2013, less than 2% of the 10.5% that washas been promised hads actually been disbursed. So what In order to ensure good health care for the people of Sierra Leone consistent commitment as well as timely and full disbursement of funds is needed.
