This morning (3Aug13), I pedaled 40.5 miles on my road bicycle, although I had planned to ride 30 miles. The weather was great: 75-80 degrees and dry with high thin cloud gray clouds, which shielded me from direct sunlight. At the 17 mile point, I met a few local riders, who were near the end of their ride. I rode with the group for a couple miles until we turned opposite directions at an intersection. They invited to join me to join them on future rides. They stated that they ride slower than the serious members of the group, who I met weeks ago. During the first 25 miles, my average speed was faster than normal, but I avoided sprints. I learned that a certain pit bull was willing chase at 27 mph, which I exceeded after a painful acceleration. I am concerned about meeting an angry fast dog, which will chase me uphill toward a busy intersection.
