This morning, I am grateful that at long last, I have actually heard and understood every word of Adeles Rolling in the Deep. Shes a lovely, talented young singer, but my ears are programmed by an Aretha Auto-Translate App. Hearing Respect and Chain of Fools as a little girl defined in part how I view my worth in relationships, and while I knew Adele was making her own contribution to the pantheon of kiss-off anthems, her song never fully resonated for me. Also this morning, I am grateful that The Queen of Soul seems to have fought a valiant battle against the despised enemy that took another Queen from my own life, 7 years ago this month. Ive been dreading hearing of Ms. Franklins passing for so long, its like a bouquet and a rainbow wrapped in sunshine to hear that her vocal game is still incredibly strong, and that girlfriend still brings church up in here wherever she performs.
