This morning I awoke to two news stories that are bothering me. 1) A young lady in Ogden was told to cover up for wearing a sleeveless shirt. (She was a reporter entering a courtroom) 2) A Salt Lake Police Officer was placed on administrative leave when asked if he could have his assignment changed as security or patrol rather than ride in the Gay Pride Parade. The comment from the SLPD was: We dont tolerate bias and bigotry in the department, and assignments are assignments, Jones said Friday. First of all we cannot force what we believe, our opinions, likes or dislikes on others no matter how much we believe they are right or wrong. I remember a situation at work where I was made to walk around the building for a drill as everyone else was. I was beginning to have trouble with my legs, but my team leader said I had to do it, no exceptions. I had a hard time doing it. I remember very distinctively he and two others turning around with smirks on their faces. I reported the team leader (trust me there was much more than that) and eventually I was moved to another team and he left the company. The next time we had a drill I asked the same thing and was given an exception. So it bothers me based on a matter of opinion something is granted or not and always it seems with no exceptions as in the case of these two stories. Because I cant speak Spanish to someone trying to take my order, and ask for someone who speaks English I am called a racists. I have been labeled many things, bigot, Non Christian, hypocrite and the list goes on because my opinion or views are different. In my newsletter for the week I have told myself to focus on music to help me get through times such as this. This is what came to mind today and the phrase All is Well. I have to remember one day it all will be well. We will not have the labels, or classes or justifications on us that marks us in society as good or bad.
