This morning I got inspired to order another family copy of our little ancestral family book called The House That Hurricane Jack Built. This is now a historic stone house where my Grandmother Mowat was born and my Uncle Ken. My grandmother Mowat married Percy Knight my grandfather This beautiful stone house was built by my great, great grandfather Hurricane Jack Mowat. It was built in 1818 by Hurricane Jack three years before his death in 1821. Its been restored and is a historical place in New Brunswick, Canada. Its located up the St Croix River that has a magnificent view looking down the St. Croix River to where it opens out into Passamaquoddy Bay. Its not far from a beautiful little town in New Brunswick called St. Andrews. I have never visited and its time now that Im retired for my sons to see. They have tours so this would be an enriching and memorable for my family. Hurricane Jacks was a Master Commander of a number of British ships like his father Captain John Mowat. John Mowat his father was the Master Commander for one of the Duke of Kents Ships called the Princess Amelia. The Duke of Kent was the Commander in Chief of His Majestys forces in British North America during our Revolutionary War.. Believe this is played out in the movie The Patriot which we enjoy watching. Apparently Hurricane was a fierce warrior in battle. That was why he got the name Hurricane because he swirled around like a Hurricane in battle with his big sword. What I just read was that he was a man of high character, steadfast principle and as an officer was remarked for his skill, courage quick and sure decisions in battle. My son Dimitri liked reading this for the first time this morning and looking at all of the pictures we have stored in an ole Sea Chest we have her at home along with the Duke of Kents chair from his cabin on the Princess Amelia.. ;-) Dimitri is very interested in our family history now. This morning he began going through our ole historical records and in our sea chest from my ancestors. Glad that he is interested. Now that Im retired we need to plan a trip to our ole family ancestral home in New Brunsnswick, Canada up the St Croix River. Pictures below.
