This morning I had the honour of attending and laying a wreath at the annual Merchant Mariners Memorial Service at Norah Head. We must never forget the role the Merchant Navy plays during times of war and the sacrifice made by merchant seamen. Today we were joined by special guest, Merchant Mariner Bernard OBrien, who survived the torpedoing of the SS Fingal off the North Coast of New South Wales during World War II. I would also like to thank Mr Joe Deakin from the MUA who joined me in addressing the Service for the role he plays in supporting Merchant Mariners. Thank you to everyone who helped organise this mornings Service and to those who attended to pay their respects. Lest We Forget.
