This morning I read what you might classify as a sobering scripture verse. It is one that forces you to think long and hard. It is one that reminds us once again that everything that we do in this life is to be done before the Lord and that it is the Lord who keeps the books and one day issues the rewards. The passage is I Timothy 5:24-25 and it goes like this in the New Living Translation, Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later. In the same way, the good deeds of some people are obvious. And the good deeds done in secret will someday come to light. The CEV says it this way, Some people get caught in their sins right away, even before the time of judgment. But other peoples sins dont show up until later. It is the same with good deeds. Some are easily seen, but none of them can be hidden. The take away that I get from this for me personally is first of all, do not think that just because you seem to be getting away with a certain sinful activity in your life that there will be no negative fruit from it. It will catch up to you eventually. On the other hand (and this is more encouraging), do not think for a moment that when no one notices or acknowledges the good things that you do in secret that God does not see and keep record. All of those things will bring forth a very positive fruit in the future. The Lord is just.
