This morning I shared with the people of St John the news that the brothers of the Society of St John the Evangelist, an Anglican religious order of men based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, have invited me to join them, and I have accepted. God willing, I will begin a six-month period of discernment as a postulant with the brothers on 2 September. Men new to the order live with the brothers, sharing fully in their life of worship and service, to discern if they are being mutually called together to live as brothers. I am deeply grateful to God and the people of St John for these transformative five years of worship and ministry together. I am thankful for the many friendships that I have made here in the College Park community. I am grateful beyond my ability to express with words for the ministry of Bp Keith Whitmore, my guide these last five years, and who has given so graciously of himself in teaching to the leadership at St John. Please keep me, my family, and the brothers in your prayers as we begin this period of discernment; and the lovely people of St John as they begin to discern who the Lord is calling even now to be their next priest and rector. Though the future feels uncertain, I trust in the love of God, who is so full of abundant grace, and who will guide and lead us as we faithfully follow the Way of Jesus. Love and blessing to us all, in abundance.
