This morning I talked to Brad on Big River Radio about how having plants in your home and office can be beneficial to your health. Headaches, respiratory problems such as asthma, dry eyes and a lack of concentration have all been linked with toxins in the air which can come from common household items such as air-conditioning, computers, detergents, solvents and even cosmetics. Australian studies have shown that certain plants can eliminate these toxins from the air completely - and all in 24 hours. Some of the most effective air-purifying species are - Philodendron Congo (pictured), Mother-in-laws tongue (pictured), Spider plant, Janet Craig and the Peace Lily. Plants can also promote calmness and pleasure thereby reducing anxiety and stress. Studies have also shown that plants in offices and schoolrooms can increase productivity and student performance. I think a plant is a great gift for somebody who has everything so this could be an idea with Christmas impending.
