This morning I was honored to have been named Birmingham Youth Assistance first ever BYA Champion. I honestly feel undeserving but cannot express how gracious I am. The BYA committee and all that they have accomplished in their 52 year history is whom should be applauded. It was a great feeling having been surrounded by representatives from Oakland county, city and school district officials from Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Franklin and Bingham Farms. The mission of Birmingham Youth Assistance is the prevention and reduction of juvenile delinquency, child abuse, and child neglect, by providing positive community based casework and counseling services as well as providing alternatives for children and families that live within the boundaries of the Birmingham Public School District. BYA is a partnership of the Oakland County Circuit Court—Family Division; the City of Birmingham and the Villages of Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms and Franklin; the Birmingham Public Schools; and community volunteers.
