This morning I went for breakfast with my friend Alan. The restaurant we went to is one Ive been going to for a long time, its called the Arches on Southend on say seafront. The young lady who served us this morning is from Romania and has just come to the UK to work. We started talking and it turns out that she was for three years working in the housekeeping department for Norwegian Cruise lines. She said how much she enjoyed it but has come to work in the UK and be based on land. I have been thinking about the huge challenge that faces the industry we all love. With borders disappearing and the so-called “poor economic countries” now able to find work within land based service areas finding crew for the ships will become more difficult. I know Carnival realises that they must invest in the crew to insure that we get the best young people to work onboard because for so many, the crew remain one of the top reasons why the cruise line I work for and the cruise line you all choose for your hard earned vacation remains .................the best cruise line in the world I raise my cup of tea to all our crew and thank them for the brilliant job they do.
