This morning Israeli forces at Salaymeh checkpoint in al-Khalil - TopicsExpress

This morning Israeli forces at Salaymeh checkpoint in al-Khalil (Hebron) threw one stun grenade and fired five tear gas grenades towards Palestinian schoolchildren. The assault began around eight oclock, as crowds of children were still walking down the street below the checkpoint and gathering outside the schools. The tear gas filled the road in front of the schools, trapping some boys, who had passed through the checkpoint after Israeli forces began firing. Children were forced to either wait behind the soldiers and border police or brave the tear gas in order to reach their schools, risking putting themselves in the firing line from the Israeli forces advancing down the road. One border police officer shoved a young boy as he was passing through the checkpoint; soldiers also occupied a roof directly above the street and aimed their rifles toward the elementary schoolchildren gathered outside their school. The schools have just entered their final exam period. In al-Khalil, children not only face days and nights of studying in order to prepare - they must also be prepared to take exams after choking on tear gas and running from an occupying army.
