This morning, albeit a late morning after a night of itching due to mosquito bites, I walked out onto my lawn to retrieve my daily paper. Much to my dismay, my lawn appeared to be disheveled with tufts of grass randomly standing up. Somewhat like my hair looks like when I wakeup. After the act of destruction set in, I saw that my flower beds had been uprooted as well. AAACCKK! Memories came back of our house in Garland, Texas in 1982. An armadillo had attacked my lawn, discovering and loving the June bug larvae, and dug up most of the lawn! In Texas, upon discovery of this incursion, I stayed up the next night with a .410 shotgun on my lap hoping the intruder would come back. It was a waste of time. They/it were smarter than I was. They had found the treasure and ran away with it! I now accept their presence as part of life but next year they will have no larvae to harvest because I will take care of my lawn so not to tempt them. I do not yet know how to naturally rid my lawn of the larvae, but will make a valiant effort to do so. One thing for sure, I am too old to be sitting up all night with a .410 shotgun poised for action. Well, I think I am. From SW Louisiana.. where nature has a way of making human life a challenge, as it should be.
