This morning as I was driving to the rescue, my phone rang and revealed a call coming from Texas. Since I was so close to arriving, I decided to let the call go to voicemail. I finished my usual morning of cleaning, laundry, washing, and simply just trying to get through another depressing gray day in December. My thoughts have been very heavy with worry about where the rescue will call home, how will I pay for a new place, where I am going to put this dog, etc. Im having a difficult time concentrating. I wish there was a pause button so time would stop and I could catch up and think without constant pressure from the consistent need. I have never once envisioned quitting. This week I have faced some very dark moments. Just a few days ago, while I was working, a song by Chris Rice Untitled Hymn came over the radio. This song was played at my Uncle Butchs funeral. Its a song that makes me pause each time and get an instant lump in my throat. I took this as a sign so...I went to my knees and I asked the Lord for an Angel to please come through for the rescue and help. I asked for the right person to see my need. I opened my eyes and saw the dogs looking at me in some sort of communal respectful quiet. Ill admit I sorta giggled. They usually all fall silent in unison only when 1) Engine #85 begins its approach down the street with sirens blaring or 2) I break out in Edelweiss really loud..I dont know, it just seems to stop them from all barking. Tonight, upon arriving home, I listened to the voicemail from Texas. Turns out, My Angel did hear my prayer. A woman named Cyndi stated she had recently lost her beloved brother, Phil Frazier, and was asking for those to donate to the rescue and The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. I called her immediately. Cyndi and I talked for over an hour. She told me that Phil owned a gorgeous bi-color German Shepherd named Molly and that he had a deep love for the breed. Phil never had children so his Molly was his everything. Molly would go with Phil everyday to his business, Fraziers Inc. located in Homeplace, Indiana which included a wrecker service, body shop and motorcycle sales and service. Phil, turns out, was very well known in his community. Cyndi described in detail that Phils friend mentioned reading about the rescue needing to find a new location in The Indy Star. You see, Phil knew his time was limited and along with his friends and Cyndi, began to make the difficult preparations. The preparations included the logistics that dont match the emotional and what he wanted. Phils spirit returned home on November 17 with his loyal Molly right next to him. Molly, being a senior, joined him 3 days later. When I was at my lowest and asking for help, a man I never met along with his angel shepherd, were looking over the rescue and offering assistance. This is a note to Phil and Molly. Phil and Molly, If only I had the pleasure of meeting you before you both passed. If only. I would have thrown a few balls for you Molly in thanks. Phil, your sister described you beautifully giving me a small sense of who you were. I pray for your sister Cyndi who deeply misses you. With all the respect I can give, I give to your life. May you and Molly enjoy the vast meadows and your body enjoy the freedom from illness. Thanks for sharing your spirit and helping the rescue. Thanks for being MY angel when I needed one. To his family, I am very sorry for your loss. You have my deepest condolences. May God continue to Bless you in this difficult time. Below is a link to Phillip Fraziers Obituary.
