This morning, during the 13th day of the Trail for Humanity, we were stalked and harassed by some individuals even though it was clear we had children with us. And then later, as I stopped to pump gas, I was targeted by a group of small-minded people simply because I was wearing a shirt that read Immigration Reform Now. They proceeded to mock me and shouted, Go back to Mexico! It angered me, and I wanted to react violently, but I chose not to. Instead I yelled back, Go Back to Appalachia! That shut them up really quick, and I realized I had won a small battle. They had no clue what Appalachia was. You see, they can attack the color of my skin, my ancestry, my beliefs, and my status in this country , but they can not insult my intelligence, nor my pride, nor my desire to make a difference. No matter how much they hate me, they can never take those things away from me. And they will never stop the Trail for Humanity! You know why? Because this group and countless other grassroot movements are passionate and hungry for change, and have garnered the support and solidarity of our gente. We are too smart, motivated, and fearless to be set back by apathy, ignorance or injustice! Change is coming, you best believe it! Viva La Causa! C/S
